Great net, but not the one you want if you're looking for species smaller than your pinkie fingernail. Very sturdy, holds up and stores away well. Could use finer mesh.

We went to West Palm Beach Florida for a vacation. A friend wanted an iguana and asked if we could try to catch one. This was a great net but the iguanas move fast and made it totally impossible to catch one. We tried several different times but finally realized it was an impossible task. We later discovered it was good thing we did not catch one. If you need a net to catch a butterfly or small critter this should do a great job for you!!

My nephew uses it for butterfly hunting. It's telescoping length is still sturdy. Have used it for years now still in great shape.

During the summer, we get the occasional bat inside the house and they are difficult to wrangle, so we bought this net to make it easier for us and safer for the bat. We haven't needed it yet, but I'm certain we will before long. :)

I purchased this when my true entomological net broke. Unfortunately this is more of a kid's net and not great for surveying insects. The mesh spacing is quite large and insects can easily slip through. The net diameter is too small for butterflies (make sure you read the diameter so you know how small it is!). It doesn't fold but the rod does extend and compress.

I didn't notice that this was a fold-able which is cool because it can be taken anywhere concealed in a backpack or packed for a trip.It is way sturdy when properly used by most people except those under 6, they can break anything.It is not for catching fish but will work for catching minnows, crayfish, med. to small snake, frog etc if it isn't white water rafting type water flow.Will catch small to medium pet birds, maybe a smaller chicken if you use it to put over them only to stop their movement and than physically pick them up. This is not a fish net, but might be ok to catch a small sunfish. Did I say small sunfish? Yep and don't complain if it doesn't hold up to your greatest fish catch of the year.

Bought this so the kids could catch critters (water spiders, minnows, cray fish, etc) in the creek to look at more closely in their bucket. They enjoyed learning how to use it and how it extends, very deep. They released what they caught with it back into the water :) It looks well made, can be fiddly to get it to extend but seems sturdy.

I ordered this net for catching wandering birds. I did not like the shape. Round wasn't great. I got a triangle shaped one that worked much better. I can't see how to fix this. The weak point is the connection. That's where mine broke.

My son loves this net and it has held up well with one exception. The stitching of the net which secures it to the round frame came loose only after a few minutes of use. I was able to restitch this area of the net to secure it to the frame and it has been just fine ever since. Just should not have had to do a repair due to some poor stitching from the manufacturer.

I especially like the fact that the handle can be extended or shortened. The net will be used to catch Monarch butterflies which will be tagged and released. The shorter net is ideal for me for this activity.Students doing insect collections for classes would probably need the longer net since they will be sweeping through weeds and grasses capturing a variety of insects at a time..
