These are absolutely superb headphones. I listen to classical, selected ‘60s & ‘70s rock (Beatles, Searchers, Moody Blues, CCR), and pop male and female vocals. The sound from these phones is simply superb: bass is solid and tight, with no muddiness of “flapping,” and the mids and highs are clear, distinct, and well-presented. For example, in the Moody Blues song “Never Comes the Day” ther me are some strong bass notes that come in at the 1:03 point, and that bass is tight, balanced, and firm with no overhang or mudiness. The guitars on Helplessly Hoping by CSNY’s “So Far” album and on Never Going Back Again by Fleetwood Mac are right there in front of you, very clearly defined. And all these qualities show up at moderate and soft listening levels, not just at higher levels, which is often the case. Moreover, these phones are exceptionally comfortable on my ears. A clear winner in all aspects.

I've owned Beyerdynamic in the past and have loved the brand. I recently decided I wanted to upgrade and go for this pair of headphones and I can truly say I'm in love. I was worried when I saw other reviews saying it's a bit tighter than other pairs and can take time to adjust, but I didn't find that with my experience. they fit perfectly. The only downside I guess is they are a bit bulky on the ears and a little heavy, but still very comfortable and the sound quality makes up for it.I highly recommend these to anyone looking to seriously get into audio.

Transparent, revelatory frequency response makes these great for mixing and mastering. Can get a little uncomfortable after a couple of hours, so breaks are needed (and a good idea anyway). Recommended without hesitation.

What can I say? At 74 years old, my hearing is far from being what it once was. I’ve used far less expensive earphones for decades, mostly Sony’s MDR V6 ( now sold as MDR 7506 ). They sound fine to me, but now, having a little more disposable income, I decided to splurge a little and get what many refer to as “audiophile grade” quality. “A little,”?? More like 5 times the cost of the Sonys. So how do I justify this expenditure? Easily. The Sonys are of the closed type and the pads barely surround my ears. Thus the DT 1990’s larger pads and “open back” design make for a far more comfortable and enjoyable experience. Closed back designs are tiring even after short periods of time. Not so for open back designs! I listen for hours at a time to my favorite recordings. Of particular interest are my vinyl recordings. Having recently re-entered into vinyl collecting, I was understandably interested to hear what difference I might hear from 180 to 200 gram “audiophile” re-pressings that cost a fortune. My findings? There are some recordings that are nearly as quiet as cds, but most recordings have the annoying surface ticks and pops of yesteryear. However, whatever you may find yourself, you will love the sound coming from these ‘phones!

Nothing to not like. Build is top notch. Sound is excellent. Although more of a tool for pros, I like the detail, its every where. Maybe a tad better than my 900 pros, but, not by much. 900 pros for under $300 is probably a better buy, they're that good.

!!!MAINLY USE FOR GAMING!!!!I have been using the DT 990 pros for about a year and wanted to see what I could do to upgrade. The 1990 pros are supposed to be like the revised big brother of the 990’s. However in a side by side comparison, I don’t really think these are worth the price when you can get the 990’s for about 1/3 of the price. They still are great sounding but I will be returning them and just sticking with my 990’s for now.
