Nice mini PC. Fast and cheap but don't expect to be doing any hardcore gaming.

I bought this on sale for $300 and liked it so much that I immediately ordered another!I have no comment regarding the installed Windows OS; when I buy a machine with that OS installed, I boot into an installer for an alternative OS (Linux in the past, OpenBSD for the past several years)The Mini PC package is pretty much identical in size and shape to an Intel NUC (which this unit replaced).Other reviewers have noted that the fan is quiet even under load. I confirm this: although I don't run game software, other CPU intensive software warms up the air exhausted at the back of the unit. The only way I've been able to discern fan noise (in a quiet room) is with my ear close to the vented top grille of the enclosure. Not only do I not run games, but I don't run a desktop environment (preferring an X11 window manager) or *any* GUI apps. I use lynx for the web, telescope for the "small" web, and alpine for IMAP/POP email. That said, I do run xlock or xview in the root window for decoration; my *impression* is that animations (particularly of busy xlock screens like that of the "scooter" mode) seem to render better than they did on the NUC that I ran previously.OpenBSD 7.2 installed without issue; everything works. (NOTE: this does not include the built-in Bluetooth, which is unsupported by OpenBSD regardless of the hardware platform. If you really need to run a Bluetooth speaker or headset, buy a USB Bluetooth dongle; OpenBSD supports these. This Mini PC has an AMI BIOS.Performance is fine. (Remember, I'm not running Windows. YMMV...) Subjectively, this Mini PC is every bit as snappy as my former Mini-ITX desktop build with an 8th-gen 65W TDP CPU from Intel. In fact, I think that my days of custom builds are in the past; Mini PCs are just too convenient and are available in a broad-enough range of configurations for my applications (software dev't, email, servers, etc.).

I've been a user and owner of Intel NUC machines for several years and they have only gotten better over time, although they did have driver issues and noisy fan issues initially. I thought that I'd be taking a bit of a chance with this Beelink SER5 Mini PC because it seems unusually well configured for a very reasonable price and I had no history with Beelink products. There has to be a catch, I thought, but I was willing to give it a go because of the Beelink SER5 Mini PC's promising price-vs-performance.All I can say is that I've been nothing short of very impressed with everything about this little machine so far. From the excellent packaging to the ease of setup, build quality, total lack of bloatware, and especially its quiet and reliable operation. So far it has exceeded my expectations from day one and has been running continuously since I first set it up. It is living up to its price-vs-performance promise. The Beelink SER5 Mini PC came equipped with Windows 11 Pro, which I require because I need to use Windows Remote Desktop server which is only available on the Pro version. I've been using Windows 11since it first became available and I find that it is every bit as reliable and easy to use as trusty Windows 10, which is approaching its end of support in 2025. I did not encounter any issues with Windows activation or connecting the Beelink SER5 Mini PC to my existing Microsoft account. I was able to update the preinstalled Windows 11 Pro to the very latest version using Windows Update with zero problems and was able to create a Windows recovery disk just in case I ever need to restore the Windows installation on the machine.I'm using the Beelink SER5 Mini PC with the DisplayPort connection with my 4K@60 Hz Dell monitor and the graphics for desktop and productivity applications including Microsoft Office 365 are stunning with no unusual video artifacts. I am not a gamer so I cannot attest to the Beelink SER5 Mini PC gaming performance. I am connected to my LAN using the 1 gig Ethernet connection although the machine also recognizes and works with my WiFi 5 network. So far the cooling fan has been totally inaudible. I have exercised all of the ports and they all work without any issues. So far the Beelink SER5 Mini PC has been doing everything I expected of it. I will continue to use it in the same manner that I use my NUC machines, which is continuous operation with a UPS to provide safe shutdown in the case of a power outage. My only regret is that I only purchased one of these machines during the Black Friday sales event.

I've owned/used this for a few months now. Sick of hauling my mediocre laptop around, I didn't need a portable computer so much as a powerful _transportable_ computer. This I spend about 10 seconds plugging/unplugging at each location, throw it in my backpack, and back-and-forth it goes. It's far smaller/lighter than my laptop anyway, slightly larger than my fist. Fast enough for just about anything except video editing (which I do on it anyway). Others have complained of noise; it does have a fan, but runs utterly silently for me. Pairs perfectly with a portable 4K monitor to deliver the equivalent performance of a four-figure laptop. Perfect option between my lower-perf. laptops and 16-core top-spec. workstation. Just wish it had a few more USB 3 ports + displayport instead of HDMI video, but... Good enough.

I bought this intending to use it as a Linux file server and it is great for that. Before powering it up the first time I opened it to upgrade the NVMe stick.I was surprised to see a high quality Kingston NVMe stick and two Crucial SO-DIMMS. This is basically a fast notebook PC without a keyboard or display. I installed a 2TB NVMe from HP. Then I installed Zorin Pro 16.2.Mine is connected to a 4K TV @ 3840x2160. I may use it as a set top TV in the future, for now it is a file server with a connected USB RAID5 array. I installed mdadm before connecting my pre-existing USB RAID5 array and it was recognized immediately.I have seen reports of problems with WiFi running Linux, not an issue for me as I'm using the gigabit Ethernet.
