It a good modem and had excellent connectivity AFTER you go it hooked up. The good news is that this works, the bad news is that the firmware doesn't appear to be updated since 1998. So take it with a grain of salt. While its a testiment that his all in one modem, router, access point is working, the underlying device is running on old tech.

This device was stellar! It automatically configured itself to my father's VDSL connection from AT&T (So Cal region). I couldn't believe how easy it was to set up. It also combines its own router/access point so that removes a piece of equipment he'd normally have to have. It doesn't have a ton of features modern routers have but if all you need is a basic, secured Wi-Fi network and a VDSL modem this thing can't be beat!

Replaced a CenturyTel DSL modem with this easily. Just had to contact Tech Support at CenturyTel to get a password to do this. Working better than the original the last couple of weeks.Update: 4/6/2022 the modem died, no power indicator. After 3.5 years not bad for the price. Purchased new one to replace and installed just as easily as the first. Remember to keep that password on file to make installation easy. Up and running again. 43 months of not paying $5.00 for hardware rental calculates to $215.00, for a $30.00 investment I would say it paid for itself.

Worthless piece of junk. Would not detect my phone line as being connected despite every other modem/router I had on hand doing so. Called ASUS router support, only to find out that their DSL routers are not technically supported by ASUS themselves. After 37 minutes of being on hold I finally was connected to an Indian call center with a customer service agent who was impossible to understand, I politely as possible asked to be transferred to someone else and was, only for the second agent to be the exact same. All told I was on the phone for a few minutes short of an hour and no closer to a working router. I am not an OUR JERBS bigot, I do not have a negative opinion of the two I spoke with, I'm sure they were doing their best, I'm posting this so that you know the DSL routers are not supported directly by ASUS but by some other company who uses a call center with poor training or ESL requirements.

I have had no issues with this router and modem! I have owned this for over 2 years and the only complaint would be that it does, at times, get warm. But to be fair, I had it mounted to a 2x6 when that occurred. Since then, it sits on a desk and I haven't had any issues since then. The ability to throttle specific wifi users data and creating guest wireless networks is also nice. The web interface is pretty good as well.

Setup with ATT DSL was easy and, once I put a stronger antenna on it and changed it N-only, signal strength was very good. But I couldn't make it work with Apple Airprint (between an IPad2 and AirPrint printer). I called Tech Support who said that "Apple would make us pay them in order to work with their protocol and we're not going to do that."

This router/modem works great as a DSL modem, but it is terrible as a wifi router. The connection drops, is inconsistent in strength (sometimes in the exact same spot I will have 5 bars, sometimes none), and is sooo slow to apply settings. I finally turned off the wireless and bought a Belkin N600. I plugged that into the LAN port on the back of the router and now I have nice speedy internet. Two stars only because the modem side of the thing works well.

I purchased this DSL modem/router to replace a Motorola DSL modem that had failed. As others have said, AT&T no longer gives you the DSL modem, and wants to charge you $100 for a Wireless G gateway. This ASUS was much cheaper, and I had no trouble installing it (other than using the wrong AT&T password - see other's comments on this). I would have been done in about 5 minutes had I not gooned that up. Been using it for about a month now with no problems - very nice, especially since it replaced two devices with one. Recommended.
