The light is 8 to 12 inches. Its not that big, but it sure puts out a lot of light. It is good for both freshwater and saltewater ,just clean it off after salt water use.It will not electrocute fish.It can also be used for ice fishing and be used out of water,but it radiates better light in the water since it's by no means a beam light. This light has to be connected to a power source (12vdc) to operate. It does not have an internal battery.

This light was very bright and used very little battery life. Baitfish were attracted by the light very quickly.

Casts good light with plenty of extention cord. Great for moblie use with two power source options. You can plug it into a vehicle power outlet or use the quick attactment battery clamps. I attach this to a small 12v 8ah battery making it quick and easy to light any area.

I really enjoy this fish light...While I can't claim it has dramatically improved the night fishing, it is fun to watch the baitfish circling and darting and an occasional predator zip through the illuminated area.(See other reviews for power accessory ratings.)
