Great design and really effective. I work from home a number of days a week and prefer to be able to sit anywhere to work rather than have a fixed desk and this is perfect. Multiple positions for the stand means you can get a good angle whatever position although to be honest I usually don't have it very steep so I can keep using keyboard. The optional side extension is great, and really useful as the stand itself is quite small so not much room around it. They all pack down and slot together well too, and the whole thing is really well designed. The soft pad on the bottom isn't hugely thick so had comfier (I've gone through 4 different lap stand designs in the past so I've tried many different types!). But the best thing about this is the design of the in built fan, which connects by USB to your laptop. The reason I've gone through so many in the past is that either my laptop over heats with the internal fan going crazy, or the stand itself over heats and warps the covering. I can now cool my laptop properly with very little extra noise as it's quieter than my laptop fan.

Bought for a new laptop for my hubby. Loved it so much that I just ordered another one for myself. Very comfortable, fits a 17 inch laptop very well. The adjustable height settings are fantastic. Keeps the laptop super cool with the built in fan. We looked for just the right lap board for quite some time. This one will not disappoint!

Not all laptops are created equal, nor is the intake for the laptops fan in the same place, for instance on my old dell inspiron 17r the intake was on the bottom of the laptop, on the left front area. But on my new alienware 15 the intake for the fans are in the rear also still on the bottom of the laptop, but are running along the entire back of it. So one cooler wont work on all laptopsNeeds a few minor changes to make this one of the best coolers you can get, first up, the surface the laptop sits on needs to be mesh, or mesh like, i.e. lots of holes for air flow. That way the internal fans of your laptop can get proper airflow, the company could have made the entire surface mesh and it would have been great. but at least with a drill you can modify this cooler to fit your needs and your laptop specifically. just make sure you drill enough holes for the air to flow well. The fan on this cooler is for all practical intents and purposes useless, it is a small fan compared to others and is right in the middle, but isnt in a recessed area so like some coolers, that will allow the air to disperse, this one is flat and only as far away from your laptops bottom as the feet of the laptop make it, so instead of providing air your laptop can use, it is just blowing air in a 80mm circle right in the middle. This would be great if your laptop has its intake right in the middle, but most dont. The pad on the bottom of the cooler is velcroed on, and is a good pad, i really like it, the mouse tray is a very nice addition, and pretty much the reason i got this cooler, however, it does flex some and creaks when you rest any weight on it, i can also see the clasp that holds it in place getting loose if you take the tray on and off allot, it has a place inside the cooler where it can be stored, also a bonus, you can even fit a mousepad in that same area, and a set of ear buds, i mention the mousepad because the area that is for the mouse on this is SUPER slick, if you like that, it will be great for you and it works great for optical mice, but for me i like something that a small shift in how you are sitting, wont send your mouse sliding off into the floor. the addition of a mouse pad handles that.

This is a very good product. I purchased it to keep ME cool as well as my computer. I routinely work on my laptop in my lounge chair, and the gadget I was using for a lap desk was inadequate. I settled on this one, and I'm very pleased with it. It has many choices for elevation with more than adequate height. The rim of the board is holding my machine comfortably in place, but I am mindful of the fact that I need to be careful with it, when I put the lap desk holding the computer on a table to go do something. The fan plugs into a USB port and works well. It can be easily disconnected if you need to use the port. I did read about broken fans in a couple of reviews. The first time I went to handle the upper portion of the desk, I went to grab it, and I realized I had put my hands in a position that would put pressure on the fan. You can certainly break the fan especially if you have large hands and make this mistake. It's plenty easy enough to do whatever you need to without getting your hands in the fan -- but you do need to think about it at first. Reasonably careful handling will avoid problems. This has a comfortable pad that it sits on. The ventilation is excellent. The height is good. I haven't used the mouse pad, because I use a trackball that sits on the arm of my chair while I'm working.I would highly recommend this product. It seems as if it's sensibly made and I expect it to be durable. An excellent product.

I bought a 17.3" gaming laptop a few months ago, and I bought this along with it. Why have a gaming laptop if you can't use it in your lap? I what I was really looking for was a lap desk with room for a mouse or with a mouse pad, but this was the only thing I could really find, and I figured the fan couldn't hurt.Turns out this was a great purchase. Very comfortable to use, this thing is almost perfect. It keeps my computer nice and cool while running huge games like Skyrim, the mouse pad extension is great for my gaming mouse (really not flimsy at all, and nice and smooth), and I didn't know how much I would appreaciate the adjustable angle thing. My laptop is quite thick, so being able to tilt the keyboard up is actually very useful for making it comfortable as well as helping to put the screen at a good viewing height.Only problem I have is that it JUST BARELY fits my 17.3" laptop. The back of my laptop actually hangs a bit off the back of the desk, but that really has not been a problem, and the rubber stop in the front keeps my laptop from sliding around just fine, hence it is still 5 stars. I did a ton of research, and this was quite literally the ONLY product on the market that would do what I wanted. All in all, great product, would highly recommend it.

As a lap desk this thing is very functional. I play high-end games on my 17" alienware laptop using this, and I'm very comfortable with this thing on my lap on the couch. It elevates the laptop nicely so that it doesnt overheat, and the mousepad extension is essential for gaming. Only potential flaw is with the fan, which isn't very powerful and seems to deplete my battery quickly... not a problem for me though because the PC still stays cool enough, and I usually plug my laptop into the wall when using this anyway. It would be nice for my purposes if the fan was a bit bigger and more powerful, but I think for most uses it's perfect. Also the lapdesk is light, and easy to move around with my laptop. A solid product, if a bit more expensive than others. You get what you pay for.EDIT 1: Wow... has it been 4 years already? What a strange, utterly inconsequential journey...But yeah. 4 years later and the lap desk and its fan are still going strong. Very good product.
