Why did you pick this product vs others?:These rods work pretty well. They essentially spread out the force being applied across the entire bend area, and resist being bent too sharply. These will help prevent those kinks that look more like folds than bends, but they will only really work for wide, sweeping bends. If you try to make a sharp/tight 90 degree elbow, it will get ugly -- and the rod will get stuck inside the pipe.

This pipe bender kit is for thin walled pipes. These function like filling the pipe with sand, but a lot easier. The diameter of each bender is about 3/16-inch less than the assigned pipe size. Therefore, the 5/8-inch pipe bender has a diameter that is about 7/16-inch. The measurement is an estimate because the cross sections are not perfect circles. One thing to consider is that it would be possible to use the 5/8-inch bender on a 1/2-inch pipe with some risk of having difficulty removing the bender if the bend is too tight. I still plan to use a spring tube during bending, and would only use these to decrease the chance of a mishap. I will update my review as needed after my next HVAC install.

You cannot, repeat, cannot kink a section of copper tubing with these. I think you'd have to force it beyond any reasonable shape to do so. These are a very unique idea and it works.I've got other tubing benders for many different uses; springs you put the tubing in, blocks with moveable pins and curved aluminum benders with half moon shaped grips. I don't know why no one has come up with this sooner.They are all common sizes for most things I'll bend. Great idea, well worth the price.

a smart and easy way to bend plumbing copper pipes without having a flat or unrounded corners. This product is a very simple but ingenious way to have perfect bends all the time. I have used this only once but will definitely be used more often on my oncoming plumbing project. Using this product is as easy as inserting it to the corresponding copper or brass pipe size, making sure this solid plastic tube is inserted all the way past your bend point and start bending it to your desire angle & when you made the right pipe angle or bends, slowly start pulling this plastic tubing out of the pipe you just shaped. It's expected to have a resistance when pulling this plastic tube out of the pipe you just bend but a silicone grease can make this task easier. Just keep in my that the sharper the bend angle the more resistance you will have pulling it out. Overall this is 1 smart and fast way to bend plumbing pipes and other mendable pipe materials.

I’ve struggled with bending soft copper tubing for years—always getting kinks or flat spots no matter how careful I was. This plastic insert thing? Total lifesaver.Just slide it into the tube, bend it by hand (no fancy tools needed), and pull the insert out. Works like a charm! The set has all the common sizes (1/4"" to 5/8""), color-coded so you don’t mix them up, and each one is crazy long (13+ feet).Tips from my experience:Go slow—if you rush it, you’ll still mess up the bend.For really tight curves, I used a cheap spring bender with it and got perfect results.Blow out the tube after—little plastic bits get left behind (no big deal, but worth cleaning).If you’re tired of wasting tubing on bad bends, just buy this. Seriously, it’s worth every penny.

These inserts are awesome. Just slide them into your copper tubing, bend it however you need (even a tight 180°!), and no kinks. I left mine in until the very end just to be safe—worked like a charm.Super easy, no frustration. Highly recommend!
